Cruelty-free make-up

I'm not sure if you guys know but I love supporting cruelty-free make-up brands. There are a lot of YouTubers and bloggers that are supporting cruelty-free make-up brands too, 2 of them are JKissa and Evelina Forsell, and Sarah's Spark once made a video about how cruel her make-up bag is.

Cruelty-free make-up brands that I use: Essence, Catrice, Nyx, Wycon Cosmetics, Lush, Jeffree Star Cosmetics, Sleek, Max & More, Ardell, Gosh, KIKO, MUA and Primark. I have a lot of make-up from these brands and I enjoy buying from them because they're cruelty free.

I do use some non-cruelty-free make-up brands but I try to buy as much cruelty-free make-up as possible. The brands that I do own make-up from: Maybelline and Rimmel. The good thing is that I only own 4 products from Maybelline and Rimmel: 2 Maybelline lipsticks, 1 Rimmel lipstick and 1 Maybelline gel eyeliner. The sad part is that I always use this gel eyeliner, so I'm trying to find a good cruelty free one (if you know one, let me know!).

And brands I own that I'm not sure of whether they are cruelty free or not: 2B, BE Creative Make-up (not certified, but they claim that they are), Park Avenue and 3 lipsticks (one is lipstick from a pharmacy and the other 2 are ones I bought from AliExpress). And again, the good thing is that I don't own that much make-up from these brands.

Brands that I want to buy from that are cruelty free: Morphe, BH Cosmetics, e.l.f., XoBeauty, LA Splash, Shiro Cosmetics, Ofra Cosmetics, The Body Shop, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Colourpop, Kat Von D, Pixi and Wet'N'Wild.

Make-up brands that I will never ever buy from: M.A.C and L'Oréal. I want to mention these because when I discovered that these brands are testing on animals I didn't want to buy anything from them. When I buy make-up, it's most of the time not that expensive, and these 2 brands are. I know L'Oréal is not that expensive, but it's more expensive than my Nyx products, products that I LOVE and that are cruelty free.

Click here or here to check out what make-up brands are cruelty free, don't worry if a make-up brand isn't on one of these lists. It's always possible that they are not on this list because of a specific reason or just that the brand is on other cruelty-free lists. You can always check on the internet, for example: "Essence cruelty free" and most of the time you're directed to their own website where they state that they are cruelty free. And please, if you're against animal testing, sign this petition to stop animal testing!

I do want to note that I still use skincare and hair products that aren't cruelty free, but I'm looking for some good cruelty-free alternatives. Let me know whether you buy a lot of cruelty-free make-up and what your favourite cruelty-free make-up brand/product is! 🐰

Een Hof van Vleugels en Verwoesting | Recensie

Recensie

Feyre's gone back to the Spring Court to find helpful information for their fight against the king. When she's gathered enough information, she goes back to the Night Court so they can all plan to attack the king. But to be able to defeat the king, all the courts must fight together. But is that even possible?

I remember bringing the first book from the library and starting in this amazing world that Sarah J. Mas created. I loved reading the first book and being team Tamlin until I read the second book. The second book was even better and I was so into Rhysand instead of Tamlin. And now here I am writing about the third book…

A Court of Wings and Ruin is such an amazing and well-written book. It's hard to write an actual review because I'm so speechless. I felt so many different emotions while reading ACOWAR. I felt happy, angry and sad. At the end I was crying because Sarah J. Maas can be very very evil! Sarah J. Maas is definitely one of my favourite authors and I cannot wait to read another book written by her!

Make sure that you check out my inspired make-up tutorial! 💚

ACOWAR inspired make-up look | Tutorial

Hi guys! The A Court of Thorns and Roses series is one of my all-time favourite book series and when I got A Court of Wings and Ruins in my hands, I just had to create another book inspired make-up look! My look is a little greener than the book itself, but I used the lightest and most blue-like green eyeshadows I had. Even though it's not the same green, I still love the look I created. It's the first time that I made such a 'dramatic' eyeshadow look, it's a winged eyeshadow look and I LOVE it! I hope you guys love it too! I also wrote an English review and a Dutch review, so make sure you check it out!

1. This is probably the first tutorial where I used concealer but I had so many spots and redness, that I just had to conceal it! This is also the first time that I used the Nyx concealer and I really like it! It's also the lightest shade because I'm pale AF.
2. After concealer you should powder, duhh! I used the green loose powder on my cheeks because they're always read and green helps covering it. I used the Catrice powder for the rest of my face.
3. After concealer and powder, we start with our eyes. First we need to prime before we're going to use eyeshadows.
4. After the primer I used a light green eyeshadow in the crease.
5. After the light green, I used a darker green to darken the look. I used this colour in the crease and also on my lid because I decided that I wanted to use some gold in the middle of my eyelid.
6. So like I mentioned, I put some gold in the middle of the eye.
7. I used a black eyeshadow to darken the look even more and give it some definition.
8. Using a gel eyeliner makes your eyeliner stay put the entire day. I used the gel eyeliner on my upper and lower waterline. (BTW I'm looking for a good cruelty-free gel eyeliner, if you know one, let me know!!!)
7. To make the eyeshadow more like a winged eyeshadow, I used the dark green on the lash line and even more below the lash line.
8.Then to darken the look again, I used the black eyeshadow on the lash line.
9. I know I used the gold single eyeshadow to let the look pop with some gold, but I thought that these 2 highlighters made it even better. I also used these highlighters in the inner corner of my eyes and later in the tutorial on my nose, forehead, temples and cheekbones.
10. One of the best parts of the look: lashes. Lately I love applying eyelashes so I always look forward to struggle with the eyelashes and the glue! 😛
11. I thought that the look could even use more gold, so I used a gold eyeliner on the inner part of the lash line.
11. Like I mentioned before, I used these 2 highlighters on the rest of my face.
12. I wasn't sure what/which lipstick to use for this look, but I love wearing black lipstick so that became the lip colour for this look.
13. In my ACOMAF look I also made this gold stripe on my lips and I thought it looked cool so that's why I did it again!
I hope that you guys love this look! 💚

Ardell Natural eyelashes | Review

Brand: Ardell
Style: Natural in 110 black
Price: €5.99
Rating: ★★★★★

Review

I've bought this pair of eyelashes a long time ago, but never really worn them. A little while ago I wore them for the very first time, and also in general the first time that I wore eyelashes not just for a make-up tutorial.

This pair was so easy to put on and they stayed on for the entire night. Like I mentioned before, it was the first time I tried to wear lashes for an entire night, so I was really surprised that they stayed on because they're only €5.99!

They're so easy to work with and so cheap, I LOVE THEM! I will definitely try another style of lashes from Ardell. Another plus is that Ardell is a cruelty-free brand, and I love cruelty-free brands!

Depression & anxiety

This is going to be a deep and open blog post, and probably very long so take something to eat and drink and continue reading! I do want to say that I'm not promoting self-harm and if you need someone to talk to, check this website out!

If you guys have read one of my first posts, there was a list of things about me and there you could read that I struggle with depression, anxiety and self-harm. For those who personally know me this might seem like a shock because I don't always talk about it. It's something that I've been struggling with for a really long time. I started harming myself around the age of 11 and never ever did my parents notice. Don't blame them, they're great parents but I was someone who could easily hide it or wear something like bracelets or do it on my thighs.

I want to talk about this because I think it's something important and because more and more people are getting hurt and I want to help them. Since 13 Reasons Why a lot of people immediately had their opinion about it. They (13 Reasons Why) were promoting suicide and showing that particular scene is irresponsible. It's all bullshit. It's just reality. A lot of people are struggling with depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicide thoughts,... We shouldn't be ashamed of ourselves, we shouldn't think that we are weak and never ever look for help, because that's what we need to do. We need to open up about ourselves, we need to talk to someone, a psychiatrist, a psychologist or just a friend. Never ever bottle up your feelings, trust me.

So back to being 11 years old: my friend and I were experimenting with self-harm and we actually did this because on the internet some role models of ours were doing it, so we had to do it too. When we first harmed ourselves, we didn't really know what to think of it, but that didn't stop us. We kept doing it and we always talked about it. After a while it felt like something good, something to transform the mental pain into physical pain. Now, 19 years old, I still struggle. There are times that I kind of plan in advance to do it. I picture where I'm going to do it and what way I can hide it. I know I sound sick, but I don't want to die. It's not that. Sometimes I feel hollow and it's something that helps me realise that I'm still human, that I'm still alive... It was hard for me when my grandma died in December and harming myself was something to make me feel alive again.

Now a little more about my depression and anxiety. I don't really know from what age I discovered that I felt depressed and had anxiety, but I think somewhere around 13-14 years. It might sound crazy that I'm still "not over it", but I think there's always been some part of me that could never be truly "happy". I don't know how to describe it or how to can say it, but that's how I feel. Don't get me wrong, I can feel very happy and I am happy when I'm with my boyfriend, but when he's not around, it feels like he has my happy part and I'm left with my depressed part. I can also be happy when I'm with my friends or family, but when I'm alone I feel lonely, depressed and I'm always overthinking.

I never really knew what this emptiness and overthinking was until I heard someone talking about it on YouTube or on a blog, I'm not sure but it was on the internet. When I heard/saw the words "depression" and "anxiety" I began googling it. And okay I hear you all thinking "ugh who searches on the internet for mental illness", but, in my opinion, looking for a mental illness or looking for a disease (like cancer symptoms,...) is something different. Mental illnesses are not that easy to label someone with instead of a disease such as cancer. With mental illnesses there are a lot of different symptoms and not everyone has every symptom. It's easier to look up feelings and ways of behaviour than symptoms of a disease.

I kind of knew what depression was but I never really knew that I had anxiety. So while googling I discovered a lot, such as that anxiety was one of the reasons why I could have sudden headaches, chest pains or abdominal pains. Why I could have perspiration or itchy skin. Why I was always overthinking, thinking about the worst things first and then the good things,... And the best part of it all: why I am so bad with social contact. I'm always nervous, it takes me a while to finally feel myself or feel good when I'm with someone. If someone approaches me, it's a lot easier for me than when I need to approach someone. When I need to approach someone, I start overthinking and getting really nervous and when someone approaches me, I don't have the time to overthink because I need to start talking immediately. It's hard for me to order something in a restaurant, I start getting nervous, getting sweaty and most of the time I don't know how to speak... (It's really hard to explain what anxiety is because it's so many things all at once, but this kind of explains it.)

So now you all know something about me that I've kept as a secret for such a long time. I'm not seeing a doctor/psychiatrist/psychologist and I'm not taking medications besides my birth control and some vitamins. I don't feel like seeing a doctor/psychiatrist/psychologist because I rather talk to someone I know than someone I don't know at all. I just know that I will never open up to a doctor/psychiatrist/psychologist or I would never tell them the whole story. But if you feel like talking to someone, you can always talk to me, one of your friends or a professional.

Remember: you're always someone's reason to smile! 💖

No Use For A Name | Review

Title: No Use For A Name
Author: Penelope Wright
Pages: 256 pages
Version: Paperback (ARC)
Publisher: Reputation Books
Rating: ★★★★

Review

First of all, I want to thank Penelope Wright for giving me an ARC copy of her book, No Use For A Name!

No Use For A Name tells the story of a fifteen-year-old girl who doesn't actually have a name. "Baby" Anderson has a crappy mother and a father who's barely there. She wants to go for het driver's permit and that's how she discovers that she doesn't have a name. Besides having that kind of drama, she also discovers a lot of secrets while falling for a guy...

No Use For A Name is a really good book. I enjoyed reading it and it was really fast paced. I couldn't stop reading and I loved figuring out who was related to who and what was going on. No Use For A Name was such an easy and relaxing read!

From everyday make-up to festival make-up | Tutorial

Hi guys! The festival season is here in Belgium so I decided to create an everyday make-up look and some things you can add when you're going to a festival. Glitter and stars are a festival trend lately so I was inspired to make one too! I love wearing warm tones and I think the gold is such a beautiful extra to the look!

Everyday look:
1. One of the most important steps to prevent creasing,... : prime your eyelids with a primer. I love this primer so much, it's cheap and it does its job!

2. I love these little Nyx palettes. I have a cool-toned edition and this warm-toned edition. Use the warm brown shade in the crease and on the lash line.

3. Then use a red and orange shade to deepen the crease and the lash line.

4. Use a highlighting shade (preferable with some gold in it) to highlight the inner part of your eyelid.

5. Make a little liner to hide the lash band later and also use the gel eyeliner on your upper waterline.

6. Wear mascara and eyelashes to make the eye look complete.

7. Use a gold highlighter to match with the rest of the look.

8. And the final step for the everyday look: liquid lipstick!

Festival look:
9. Apply gold eyeliner on your lower waterline.

10. Apply some glitter on top of your golden highlighter to give it something extra.

11. Look for some stars in your local craft store to apply in under your lash line. It looks really cute and I cannot wait to use the stars again!

12. And give your lips something extra by drawing a golden stripe in the middle of your lower lip

And that's it! 💛
